The Bible, especially Genesis, was not written as a science or history textbook, and should not be read as one. Genesis, particularly the Creation story, was written in a story or poetic format, so that children could understand it better. Essentially, Biblical Creation states that God created the heavens, the Earth and everything in them in six days. The Biblical theory of Creation influenced scientific thinking in Western Europe until around The Middle Ages.
